The battle of missions requires extensive times of recovery from the often difficult deployments overseas. Missionaries are seen as superheroes, when in reality, they are ordinary people like the rest of us. Both short term and long term missionaries typically lack the resources or opportunity to rest. They come back for furlough only to launch into a year of traveling across the country reporting to supporters, seeking to show fruit from their labors. They have just spent months or years in a different culture, learning a different language, eating different food, developing different relationships, setting up a different home, and gaining different friends. Some have even experienced extensive political unrest or war, not to mention the fierce spiritual battle.
Jesus Himself spent extended times away from the crowds to commune and refresh with His Father in Heaven. He disappeared at the times when He was most wanted by the mob. If Jesus needed recovery and time with His Father, we must realize that missionaries, people on the front lines, need protected time to reconnect with their Father, along with prioritized rest.
Operation Mordecai seeks to provide the recovery needed for missionaries. We do this first by hosting handpicked missionaries who are facing life changes, ministry transition, family needs, or are just in desperate need of R&R. We also offer group missionary retreats both in the US and internationally that include informal and relaxed workshops with experienced speakers along with trained counselors. Having experienced many of these difficulties ourselves, we are passionate to provide opportunities for missionaries to get away, rest, and reconnect with God and the mission He has for them.
